What does Acupuncture Treat?

Acupuncture treats a variety of Western diseases and illnesses.  We have had success with pain issues, infertility, pediatric issues, addictions, mental health concerns, insomnia, restless leg, digestive complaints, glaucoma, common cold and flu, neuropathy, menstrual issues, and just about anything.  The question should really be, “what does acupuncture (or Chinese Medicine) not treat?”

Is Acupuncture safe?

We follow strict infection control procedures, in accordance with national standards regarding clean needle technique.  Acupuncture has few side effects.  These include slight pain or bruising at the sit of insertion, and occasionally clients report an exacerbation of preexisting conditions.  This is part of the healing process, and lasts no longer than 24 hours.  Usually, symptoms completely disappear after this time and do not return.

Do the needles hurt?

The acupuncture needles we use are sterile, single-use, disposable needles.  Our needles are very thin, about the width of a few strands of hair.  Some clients report a slight pinch or discomfort upon insertion.  Rarely are needles painful.  Occasionally slight bruising at the insertion site occurs.

How long is an Acupuncture session?

The first visit lasts about 2 hours.  During this time, a full health history and details of current symptoms are obtained.  Chinese Medicine is a holistic approach, so all of this information is vital to forming a diagnosis and beginning treatment.  All aspects of body, mind, emotions, and spirit are important in restoring and maintaining your health and quality of life.  A needle treatment will usually be performed during this visit.  All subsequent visits are about 1 hour long.

Does insurance cover Acupuncture?

More and more insurance companies are offering acupuncture services with their coverage.  Each insurance company and insurance plan is different, though, so it is important to check with your provider.  Ludwig is a participating provider with Care First Blue Cross Blue Shield and Johns Hopkins EHP.  We are able to check for you to see if acupuncture is covered under your plan.

Why Herbs?

Frequently Asked Questions

Herbs are an important and often underused healing modality.  Because herbs are taken daily, they are able to heal your body quickly and effectively.  When used in conjunction with acupuncture, clients report significant improvements in health and lifestyle.
